School History
Carminati Elementary opened in 1971. It is named for Augusta Carminati, a veteran Tempe Elementary teacher and principal.
Augusta, or "Gussie" as she was called, first became part of Tempe Elementary Schools in 1930, when she was hired as a primary teacher at Tempe Grammar School. In 1947, she became principal of the Eighth Street School, and then later principal of Ritter School in 1951.
